This delivers richer and more meaningful experiences, and the shift to AI will reshape industries. India\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/artificial-intelligence\/one-year-12-startups-india-ai-mission-faces-its-first-real-test-11771238929085.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"startup\">startup<\/a> ecosystem has a critical role to play in it, as AI drives innovation across sectors,\u201d Amon said in a briefing statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-3\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The fund, the top executive added, will be operated by Qualcomm Ventures\u2014the venture capital division of the chipmaker, and be made available in India as a \u2018strategic AI ventures fund\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\" class=\"alsoRead\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong> <!-- -->|<!-- --> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/artificial-intelligence\/vinod-khosla-predicts-ai-will-kill-indian-it-sector-in-five-years-11771343050947.html\">Vinod Khosla predicts AI will kill Indian IT sector in five years<\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Qualcomm is a stakeholder in Mukesh Ambani-led Jio Platforms Ltd, having invested $98 million for a 0.15% stake in the company in December 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>In a statement emailed to <i>Mint<\/i>, the company said that it has invested in \u201cmore than 40 companies in India since incorporating here in 2007,\u201d including mapping services firm MapMyIndia, drone maker IdeaForge, and logistics services firm Shadowfax, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-7\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>To be sure, this is the second private venture capital fund dedicated to AI startups announced in two days, after IDTA committed to invest $1 billion in AI only, over three years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-8\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>At a press briefing on Tuesday, union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the deep-tech sector will see private capital investments of $17 billion, without specifying a timeline for it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\" class=\"alsoRead\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong> <!-- -->|<!-- --> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/corporates-ai-training-creators-consultants-courses-reliance-hdfc-shell-11753253064572.html\">Inside India\u2019s booming corporate AI upskilling market<\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>Why investors are bullish<\/h2>\n<p>Investors sounded bullish on the growth of homegrown ventures in the near future. Rajan Anandan, managing director at Peak XV, said in an emailed statement on Tuesday that \u201cwith over 900 million Indians online, the real opportunity lies in solving real needs, helping people find jobs, grow income, and build businesses using AI. This focus on meeting the real needs of Indian users and building products at population scale is what will define India\u2019s leadership in AI.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-11\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures and cofounder of Sun Microsystems, said in an interview with <i>Mint <\/i>on Tuesday that AI makes for a major investment opportunity for private ventures, but \u201cthrough a philanthropic lens.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-12\" class=\"alsoRead\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong> <!-- -->|<!-- --> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/india-ai-impact-summit-ai-summit-artificial-intelligence-app-funding-11771225648526.html\">Market for apps, funding pitches to precede policy declaration at AI summit<\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-13\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>\u201cIndia must leverage its Aadhaar stack to build AI for public services. Sectors such as education, access to healthcare and the likes cannot be resolved as frugally as what AI can do, for a country of India\u2019s scale. For this, private venture capital investors must double-down on building and running India\u2019s AI stack, but from an angle of philanthropy,\u201d Khosla said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-14\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Qualcomm did not say whether it has already made investments from its new India-only AI VC fund, or whether it scouted for AI startups at the ongoing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\/artificial-intelligence\/mint-primer-why-is-there-the-hype-around-ai-summit-in-india-11771154823808.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"India AI Impact Summit\">India AI Impact Summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-15\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Exhibitors on the summit\u2019s show floor, however, were left disappointed on day two of the event, claiming it lacked the global executives and investors they expected to see at the venue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-16\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Among other global participants, fellow chipmaker <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/nvidia-india-ai-partnerships-reliance-tata-hero-motocorp-manufacturing-future-11771346828154.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Nvidia announced a series of computing partnerships with top Indian conglomerates\">Nvidia announced a series of computing partnerships with top Indian conglomerates<\/a>, including Reliance New Energy and Larsen &#038; Toubro Semiconductor.
