{"id":420757,"date":"2026-02-26T08:54:36","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T03:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/guardrails-off-for-anthropic-firm-tweaks-ai-safety-policy-amid-heightened-competition-lack-of-regulation-what-changes-crypto-news\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T08:59:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T03:29:00","slug":"guardrails-off-for-anthropic-firm-tweaks-ai-safety-policy-amid-heightened-competition-lack-of-regulation-what-changes-crypto-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dripp.zone\/news\/guardrails-off-for-anthropic-firm-tweaks-ai-safety-policy-amid-heightened-competition-lack-of-regulation-what-changes-crypto-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Guardrails off for Anthropic: Firm tweaks AI safety policy amid heightened competition, lack of regulation\u2014what changes? &#8211; Crypto News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"article-index-0\">\n<p>The guardrails are off for Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI employees worried about the dangers of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/ai\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"artificial intelligence\">artificial intelligence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-1\">\n<p>Once focused on the proper development of AI technology with safety in mind, Anthropic is now weakening its foundational safety principle, with the company releasing a statement on its revised security policy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-2\">\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re releasing the third version of our Responsible Scaling Policy (RSP), the voluntary framework we use to mitigate catastrophic risks from AI systems,&#8221; Anthropic said on Tuesday, marking the change. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\">\n<h2>Anthropic&#8217;s new safety policy: What changes?<\/h2>\n<p>In a statement to Business Insider, the company also said that amid heightened competition and lack of government regulation, it would no longer abide by its commitment &#8220;to pause the scaling and\/or delay the deployment of new models&#8221; when such advancements would have outpaced its own safety measures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\">\n<p>Anthropic\u2019s previous safety policy required it to pause training more powerful models if their capabilities outpaced the company\u2019s ability to control them and ensure their safety \u2014 a measure that\u2019s been removed in the new policy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\">\n<p>Explaining the shift, Anthropic said that the current policy environment with regard to the technology had &#8220;shifted toward prioritizing AI competitiveness and economic growth, while safety-oriented discussions have yet to gain meaningful traction at the federal level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-7\">\n<p>Further, the company&#8217;s chief science officer, Jared Kaplan, told Time Magazine that its responsible scaling policy had failed to keep pace with the AI race. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\">\n<p>&#8220;We felt that it wouldn&#8217;t actually help anyone for us to stop training AI models. We didn&#8217;t really feel, with the rapid advance of AI, that it made sense for us to make unilateral commitments \u2026 if competitors are blazing ahead,&#8221; Kaplan was quoted as saying by the publication.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\">\n<p>Anthropic also said that it was &#8220;convinced&#8221; that &#8220;effective government engagement on AI safety is both necessary and achievable&#8221;, but added that it was &#8220;proving to be a long-term project&#8212;not something that is happening organically as AI becomes more capable or crosses certain thresholds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-11\">\n<p>To that end, Anthropic will continue to provide safety recommendations for the AI industry, but the company will separate its own plans from its suggestions for the industry. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-13\">\n<h2>Tiff with Pentagon<\/h2>\n<p>The change comes at a time when Anthropic has been embroiled in a dispute with the Pentagon, and a day after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave the company&#8217;s CEO <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/trends\/anthropic-ceo-dario-amodei-advise-indians-choose-these-careers-ai-integration-wtf-podcast-with-nikhil-kamath-11771934052119.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Dario Amodei\">Dario Amodei<\/a> a Friday <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/us-news\/pete-hegseth-sets-friday-deadline-for-anthropic-to-drop-ai-safeguards-or-face-pentagon-action-11771976281709.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"deadline\">deadline<\/a> to rollback AI safeguards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-14\">\n<p>Failing to do so, Hegseth warned, would put Anthropic at risk of losing a $200 million defence contract and being put on a government blacklist, reported <i>CNN<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-15\">\n<p>That said, a source familiar with developments told news outlet that the change in Anthropic&#8217;s safety policy was not related to the Pentagon case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The guardrails are off for Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI employees worried about the dangers of artificial intelligence.
