Tens of thousands of Americans are now at risk of identity theft and privacy violations after a healthcare firm suffered a cybersecurity event.<\/p>\n
A new bulletin from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights shows<\/a> that the National Association on Drug Abuse Problems (NADAP) has suffered a hacking\/IT incident impacting 90,000 Americans.<\/p>\n In a notice sent to affected people, NADAP says<\/a> an unauthorized entity gained access to its systems and stole the firm\u2019s data trove that may have included names, Social Security numbers, birthdays, medical histories, health insurance records and tax or financial data.<\/p>\n \u201cOn or about January 10, 2026, we identified suspicious activity within our network. We promptly took steps to secure the environment and launched an investigation. <\/em><\/p>\n With the support of cybersecurity experts, we learned of information suggesting that an unknown actor gained unauthorized access to our network and accessed files, some of which contained protected health information and\/or protected personal information. NADAP then worked expeditiously to identify impacted information and individuals. This is an ongoing process.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n NADAP is a New York-based firm that specializes in providing health and employment services, including assessment and referral for substance abuse, job preparation programs, vocational training, job placements and more.<\/p>\n The firm says it has taken additional measures to bolster its network security to mitigate the risk of a similar event happening in the future.
