Thanks!<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis was a highly sophisticated operation that appears to have involved multi-week preparation and staged execution, including the use of durable nonce accounts to pre-sign transactions that delayed execution,\u201d the firm said in the post.<\/p>\n<div id=\"pymnt-2656376707\" class=\"pymnt-content\" style=\"margin-top: 50px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Advertisement: Scroll to Continue<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In another Wednesday <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/driftprotocol\/status\/2039564448956858642?s=43&#038;t=HX_ju0vgQxqA9hav5Ebegg\">post<\/a> on X, Drift said the attack also involved the \u201ccompromise of multiple multisig singers\u2019 approvals, likely through targeted social engineering or transaction misrepresentation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Financial Times <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/727f016a-3d64-49c7-8988-a249b5ace138?syn-25a6b1a6=1\">reported<\/a> Thursday that Drift is the largest perpetual futures exchange on the Solana blockchain. The FT described perpetual futures as derivative contracts that have no expiration and are used by cryptocurrency traders to speculate on asset prices.<\/p>\n<p>The report said the hackers who attacked Drift stole $280 million from the exchange, which amounted to about half the total U.S. dollar value on deposit with it.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-01\/solana-based-defi-project-drift-hit-by-285-million-exploit\">reported<\/a> Wednesday that the amount of cryptocurrencies involved, as determined by blockchain data analysts, could make this one of the biggest <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2026\/solana-based-defi-exchange-suffers-285-million-hack\/\">hacks<\/a> in crypto\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>The hacker likely exploited a new market on Drift that lets users borrow other cryptocurrencies against an illiquid token called CVT, the Bloomberg report said, citing Xuxian Jiang, a researcher at blockchain security company <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/peckshield.com\/\">PeckShield<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Blockchain data platform <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chainalysis.com\/\">Chainalysis<\/a> reported in December that during the first roughly eight months of 2025, from January through early September, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/cryptocurrency\/2025\/crypto-thefts-reached-3-4-billion-in-2025\/\">crypto thefts<\/a> totaled $3.4 billion.
