Blockchain development company\u00a0Alchemy<\/a>\u00a0has debuted a tool that lets AI payment systems work together.<\/p>\n

AgentPay is designed to provide interoperability to agentic payment systems, company officials\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0CoinDesk Wednesday (April 8).<\/p>\n

\u201cAI agents aren\u2019t assistants anymore. They\u2019re buyers,\u201d Alchemy says on its\u00a0website<\/a>. \u201cOpenAI, Anthropic, and others are shipping agents that can discover services, compare options, and spend money on their own. The businesses those agents can transact with get chosen. The ones they can\u2019t get skipped.\u201d<\/p>\n

If agentic payment systems can\u2019t talk to one another, the CoinDesk report added, it means a merchant that wants to attract\u00a0AI agents<\/a>\u00a0as customers needs to construct a separate integration for every protocol.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not sustainable, and it\u2019s only going to get more fragmented as more systems launch,\u201d Alchemy CTO\u00a0Guillaume Poncin<\/a>\u00a0told CoinDesk via email. \u201cAgentPay fixes that. A merchant registers their existing API with us, we give them a new endpoint, and any agent on any supported protocol can pay them through it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report says Alchemy is seen as the \u201cAWS of Web3,\u201d since it provides the infrastructure, developer tools and node services required for blockchain applications. AgentPay, the report added, can offer one integration for every protocol.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sit in the middle as the translation layer, where AgentPay routes instructions, and Alchemy never touches the funds,\u201d Poncin said.<\/p>\n

In related news, a new PYMNTS Intelligence report,\u00a0\u201cHow Acquirers Prepare for Agentic Commerce<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0reveals that a growing share of acquirers believe the foundations for agentic commerce are already in place.<\/p>\n

Nearly 80% of surveyed acquirers say they are at least somewhat prepared to support seamless omnichannel shopping experiences, a prerequisite for any system in which autonomous agents transact across digital and physical environments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis could\u00a0represent a notable shift<\/a>,\u201d PYMNTS wrote recently. \u201cPayments modernization has historically lagged behind consumer-facing innovation, constrained by legacy systems and regulatory complexity. Yet the current moment suggests a reversal: the rails are largely built, and the conversation is now moving from capability to execution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report also identifies a series of operational priorities for merchants, including the need to deliver consistent payment experiences for both digital and physical channels, closing an almost ubiquitous fragmentation gap.<\/p>\n
