HSBC<\/a>\u00a0has expanded its\u00a0Tokenized Deposit Service<\/a>\u00a0(TDS) to the United States, saying this service provides real-time funds movement across\u00a0jurisdictions\u00a0in a regulatory-compliant environment.<\/p>\n

The expansion adds another key financial market to the service, as TDS is already available in Hong Kong, Singapore, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, the bank said in a Monday (April 13)\u00a0press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By combining traditional bank deposits with blockchain-based rails, TDS enables eligible clients to transfer funds at any time, domestically and cross-border, from treasury centers to subsidiaries, according to the release.<\/p>\n

TDS is built to integrate with clients\u2019 existing treasury and payment infrastructures and operate within local regulatory frameworks, the release said.<\/p>\n

The service is available to eligible HSBC corporate and institutional clients in the U.S., per the release.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur clients operate across markets, currencies and time zones and are looking for faster, more transparent ways to manage liquidity and move money without adding operational complexity,\u201d\u00a0Tom Halpin<\/a>, North America lead, global payments solutions at HSBC, said in the release. \u201cWith TDS, we\u2019re helping clients reduce friction, improve control and connect more easily with the evolving digital ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n

HSBC announced in September that it expanded TDS to include cross-border transactions<\/a>\u00a0and that it conducted its first U.S. dollar cross-border transaction between Hong Kong and Singapore to optimize treasury management for\u00a0Ant International<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The bank said at the time that it launched TDS for domestic payments in Hong Kong and Singapore earlier in 2025. It then expanded the service to the U.K. and Luxembourg markets, supporting domestic payments in additional currencies such as the pound, euro and U.S. dollar. The bank also said it planned to scale the service across its key markets.<\/p>\n

When announcing that expansion in September, HSBC said that with the help of the bank\u2019s distributed ledger technology, traditional fiat deposits are represented by digital tokens, letting cash movements be customized and executed instantly from clients\u2019 systems.<\/p>\n

PYMNTS reported in October that in addition to HSBC, other big banks such as BNY, Citi and JPMorgan are experimenting with\u00a0tokenized deposits<\/a>.
