unfreeze $73.5 million in Ether tied to the Kelp DAO attack and to direct those funds to \u201cDeFi United,\u201d a fund aimed at restoring rsETH and compensating its holders.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Arbitrum Security Council <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/arbitrum-freezes-71m-ether-connected-kelp-exploit\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">moved to freeze<\/span><\/a> 30,765 Ether (ETH) held in a wallet connected to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/restaking-platform-kelp-exploited-293-million\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">$293 million<\/span><\/a> Kelp exploit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a proposal posted Saturday on the Arbitrum governance forum, Aave Labs <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forum.arbitrum.foundation\/t\/constitutional-aip-approve-release-of-frozen-eth\/30825\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">said<\/span><\/a> directing those funds to a planned remediation effort would \u201crestore normal conditions for Arbitrum users\u201d and the wider ecosystem and that the Ether on Arbitrum \u201crepresents a material contribution\u201d toward restoring the Kelp DAO restaked ETH (rsETH) token.<\/p>\n<p>The submission was made with the support of Kelp DAO, LayerZero, Ether.fi and Compound, four of the several crypto protocols affected by the hack.<\/p>\n<h2>DeFi United sees $21 million in contributions<\/h2>\n<p>The proposal comes days after Aave Labs and others <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/defi-ecosystem-unites-and-pledges-to-rseth-relief-effort\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">set up<\/span><\/a> the \u201cDeFi United\u201d on Friday in an effort to fully restore the backing of rsETH.<\/p>\n<p>Dune Analytics <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/entropy_advisors\/defiunited-contributors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">data<\/span><\/a> shows that about $21 million in contributions has already been made, with contributions including those from Aave Labs CEO Stani Kulechov, Aave Labs head of contracts Emilio Frangella, Kelp DAO, Golem Foundation, Web3 development platform BGD Labs and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bbn_foundation\/status\/2048475434384314745?s=46&#038;t=MuRujqZUAz3TQE1vmr3c6A\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Babylon,<\/span><\/a> a Bitcoin-native DeFi protocol.<\/p>\n<p>Another $215 million has been pledged by Arbitrum, Mantle, Ether.fi and Lido to assist the recovery effort, which are subject to governance votes.<\/p>\n<p>LayerZero, Ethena, Ink Foundation and Frax Finance have also signaled their intention to help.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><em>Source: <\/em><a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hit hard<\/span><\/a> by the Kelp DAO exploit, with its total value locked <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/protocol\/aave?fees=false\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">falling<\/span><\/a> nearly $12 billion in a week after the hacker put the stolen rsETH tokens up as collateral on its lending platform to borrow wrapped Ether, leaving more than $190 million in bad debt and triggering a wave of withdrawals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Aave sets a seven-week timeline for the recovery plan<\/h2>\n<p>In the Arbitrum proposal, Aave Labs said a full recovery would not only restore rsETH\u2019s backing but also normalize conditions for its holders, asked for the 30,765 Ether to be sent to a recovery address controlled by Aave, Kelp DAO and blockchain security platform Certora.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/defi-risk-manager-chaos-labs-leaves-aave-says-decision-not-made-haste\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Aave Labs<\/span><\/a> said it expects the
