    North Korean-linked hacking groups have sent a shiver down the cryptosphere\u2019s spine amid <\/span>mounting losses<\/span><\/a> for <\/span>decentralized finance<\/span><\/a> projects, but those fears have grown just as intense on Wall Street, according to Digital Asset co-founder and CEO Yuval Rooz.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Even before Kelp DAO\u2019s $290 million hack rattled confidence in DeFi<\/a> last month, Rooz told <\/span>Decrypt <\/span><\/i>that the team behind Canton\u2014a public, permissioned blockchain\u2014had fielded questions from financial institutions about threats from the so-called Hermit Kingdom. North Korean hackers have stolen over $6 billion in crypto<\/a> since 2017, per a report from TRM Labs.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cThey have to make sure that bad actors cannot engage with their systems,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s what they\u2019re responsible for from their fiduciary duty as a traditional organization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    Because Canton allows participants to implement guardrails for subnets they create or digital assets they issue, North Korean-linked hacking groups may struggle to infiltrate Canton projects that take advantage of those risk protections. That’s despite DeFi attackers’ evolution from simple phishing attempts to <\/span>months-long infiltration campaigns<\/span><\/a> aimed at gaining privileged access to protocols.<\/span><\/p>\n
