A security breach that compromised the computer system of a Wisconsin-based financial services firm has placed the sensitive data of 27,076 people at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n In a notice dated May 29th, KerberRose Wealth Management tells potentially affected individuals of a <\/span>security incident<\/span><\/a> that it discovered on May 1st.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The firm says that an \u201cunauthorized third party\u201d got hold of an employee\u2019s email account, enabling the perpetrator to access a backup platform used in operating the company\u2019s wealth management business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n KerberRose says it immediately took action to contain the incident. It also sought the help of a forensic security firm to identify who may have been impacted and what data may have been acquired.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Based on the investigation, the personal information that were exposed may have included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, bank account information and dates of birth.<\/span><\/p>\n Affected individuals include KerberRose\u2019s wealth management customers as well as applicants and participants in retirement plans availing of the firm\u2019s services.
