Research firm TechInsights estimated that passing the higher cost on to consumers while maintaining the company&#8217;s profit margin could roughly add $270 to the price of the next <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/we-did-the-math-on-why-the-iphone-18-pro-could-cost-1299-11781745441382.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"iPhone\">iPhone<\/a> Pro model.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Since 2025, when major tech firms, including Google, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/what-is-kali365-fbi-warns-telegram-based-phishing-service-targeting-microsoft-365-users-11781549456445.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a>, Meta and Amazon, started announcing massive increases in their capital spending budgets, the cost of memory and storage chips has jumped by 4x. TechInsights anticipates that both prices will continue increasing into 2027.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Cook, who has worked in electronic supply chains throughout his career, including stints at IBM and Compaq before joining Apple, said he has never experienced such a massive spike in prices and called it a &#8220;hundred-year flood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-11\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>China houses major domestic memory and storage manufacturers<\/h2>\n<p>According to the report, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/topic\/china\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"China\">China<\/a> has developed major domestic memory and storage manufacturers; however, American companies would generally need government approvals to engage with them due to national security restrictions.
