However, one key announcement that went under the radar was Apple expanding its child safety and parental control features, giving parents more control over what their children can access, who they can communicate with, and how much time they spend on their devices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-2\" class=\"alsoRead\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong> <!-- -->|<!-- --> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/siri-ai-to-ios-27-every-new-feature-apple-announced-at-wwdc-2026-11780943234225.html\">Siri AI to iOS 27: Everything Apple announced at WWDC 2026<\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-3\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>&#8220;We recognize that every child is unique and parents are in the best position to decide what works for their family,&#8221; Ann Thai, Apple&#8217;s director of App Store management, said during the presentation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Apple says it designed the new tools with guidance from experts, including child development and online safety researchers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>What are the parental control tools?<\/h2>\n<h2>1) New setup assistant<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/apple-wwdc-2026-live-updates-ios-27-siri-ai-revamp-macos-27-key-announcements-and-highlights-11780923667605.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Apple\">Apple<\/a> has introduced a new setup assistant to give parents the choice of deciding what content and apps their children can access on a new device.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Parents can choose a small set of essential apps, recommended apps, or create their own collection. There is always the option of adding more apps later as the child grows older.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-7\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>2) Ask to Browse<\/h2>\n<p>Apple already requires parental approval before a child can download an app from the App Store via the \u2018Ask to Buy\u2019 feature. That feature is now being joined by \u2018Ask to Browse\u2019, which requires children to seek parental approval before visiting a new website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\" class=\"alsoRead\"><strong>Also Read<\/strong> <!-- -->|<!-- --> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/apple-wwdc-2026-live-updates-ios-27-siri-ai-revamp-macos-27-key-announcements-and-highlights-11780923667605.html\">Apple WWDC 2026 Highlights: macOS Golden Gate announced<\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Parents can review the website request and approve or deny access directly from their <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/how-to-get-apples-new-siri-ai-on-your-iphone-with-the-ios-27-developer-beta-11780948221545.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"iPhone\">iPhone<\/a>, iPad, or Mac.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-11\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The feature will be enabled by default for children under 13, while parents can also enable it for teenagers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-12\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>3) Parents can approve new contacts<\/h2>\n<p>Apple is also giving parents the ability to decide who their children communicate with by requiring approval before a new contact can be added on their iPhone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-13\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The company says parents can start with a limited contact list and then add more contacts as the child becomes more independent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-14\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>4) Apple now blocks violent content<\/h2>\n<p>Apple is also expanding its Community Safety feature by blocking \u2018gore or violent content\u2019 when it is detected in shared images or videos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-15\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Notably, the company already blurs potentially nude images and videos in Messages and FaceTime calls.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-16\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>5) Screen Time recommendations<\/h2>\n<p>Apple is redesigning Screen Time and introducing a new &#8220;Time Allowances&#8221; feature to give parents more control over which apps their children spend time on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-17\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The company says parents will be able to manage the time their children spend across app categories such as Entertainment, Games, and Social Media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-18\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Parents will also have the ability to set daily schedules to manage which apps their children can access at different times of the day and week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-19\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>For example, educational apps can remain available during school hours while entertainment and gaming apps are restricted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-20\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>6) Parents can see a child&#8217;s most-used apps<\/h2>\n<p>Apple is also giving <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/instagram-chief-says-he-does-not-believe-people-can-get-clinically-addicted-to-social-media-11770844591304.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Screen Time\">Screen Time <\/a>a visual overhaul to help parents better understand their child&#8217;s average device usage and most-used apps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-21\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The redesigned UI also makes it easier for parents to adjust restrictions and permissions with a single tap.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Siri&#8217;s new AI avatar and Apple Intelligence features in the Photos and Camera apps may have hogged all the limelight during the WWDC 2026 presentation.
