According to a <i>Financial Times<\/i> report, Google told Meta around March that it could not meet the full Gemini capacity the company had sought to purchase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-1\">\n<h2>Meta cautions employees against tokenmaxxing<\/h2>\n<p>The report added that the shortfall disrupted and delayed some of Meta\u2019s internal AI projects. Several other Google clients have also been affected, though to a lesser extent, according to the report. Meta has been particularly impacted due to its exceptionally high demand for Google\u2019s models, the FT said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\">\n<p>Due to the restrictions, Meta has encouraged staff to be more efficient with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/amazon-tells-staff-to-stop-using-ai-just-to-use-ai-after-shutting-down-its-token-leaderboard-11780098151409.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"AI tokens\">AI tokens<\/a>, the units that measure AI usage, the FT report said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\">\n<p>Even as companies continue to spend billions on chips and data centres, they are still struggling to secure enough computing power to support the growing demand for AI services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\">\n<p>Revenue at Google Cloud grew to $20 billion in the first quarter ended March, but CEO <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/trends\/google-ceo-and-stanford-alumnus-sundar-pichai-met-with-student-protests-at-universitys-commencement-ceremony-11781500566180.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Sundar Pichai\">Sundar Pichai<\/a> said computing power constraints prevented even higher growth and contributed to the cloud unit&#8217;s backlog nearly doubling quarter on quarter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-7\">\n<h2>Meta Google deal on AI<\/h2>\n<p>In September 2025, it was reported that Meta was in talks with Google Cloud to leverage its Gemini artificial intelligence models for more effective advertising. According to The Information, Meta was exploring options to fine-tune Google\u2019s Gemini and open-source Gemma models with its own advertising data.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\">\n<p>Meta and Google directly compete in the online advertising market.
