Ahead of the rollout of ads on Apple Maps, the iPhone maker has quietly published a new advertising policy that bans several categories of businesses from buying ads on Maps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-1\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Notably, Apple has announced that ads will be coming to Apple Maps, but the company is yet to give a final date for when they will begin rolling out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-2\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>\u201cAds on Apple Maps will be available to businesses starting this summer in the U.S. and Canada. Ads will appear in the Maps app on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/apple-in-talks-with-khosla-ventures-backed-prismml-to-shrink-ai-models-for-iphone-11784048730076.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"iPhone\">iPhone<\/a> and iPad,\u201d the Cupertino-based tech giant said in a blog earlier this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-3\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>These businesses won&#8217;t be allowed to advertise on Apple Maps<\/h2>\n<p>Under the new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/apple-intelligence-cleared-for-use-on-iphones-in-china-after-regulatory-approval-11784109578530.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Apple\">Apple<\/a> Advertising Services policy, businesses offering home services such as plumbing, electrical work, locksmith services, HVAC, pest control, roofing and general contracting will not be allowed to run ads on Apple Maps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-4\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Apple has also banned bail bond services and cryptocurrency ATM operators from advertising on the platform. Meanwhile, advertisements related to medical services will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis before approval.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-5\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>\u201cAd content that contains or directly or indirectly promotes ATMs for cryptocurrencies is prohibited,\u201d Apple wrote in a document published this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-6\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>The Apple advertising policy also prohibits ads related to deceptive claims, profanity, political campaigns, weapons, violence, controlled substances and other prohibited content.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-7\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>In contrast, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/technology\/tech-news\/google-to-allow-third-party-app-stores-inside-play-store-from-next-week-after-epic-lawsuit-11784172668758.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Google\">Google<\/a> allows many home services businesses to advertise through its Local Services Ads programme after completing additional verification checks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-8\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<h2>How Apple Maps ads will work<\/h2>\n<p>According to a TechCrunch report, Apple plans to show only one sponsored listing in Maps search results. The promoted business will be marked with a blue halo around its map pin and labelled as an advertisement in the Suggested Places section.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-9\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Apple also says that information about the ads users interact with will remain on the device and will not be collected by the company or shared with third parties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-10\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>Apple announced ads in Apple Maps in March as part of its new Apple Business platform. The company said businesses will first need to claim their location on Apple Maps before creating ads. Their personal data will remain on-device and will not be shared with third parties.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"article-index-14\" class=\"storyParagraph\">\n<p>\u201cAds on Maps builds on Apple\u2019s broader privacy-first approach to advertising, and maintains the same privacy protections Maps users enjoy today. A user\u2019s location and the ads they see and interact with in Maps are not associated with a user\u2019s Apple Account.
