Investment banking group William Blair <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/williamblair.bluematrix.com\/links2\/secure\/pdf\/2fa72889-6e2c-4fcb-bb3b-128f80c23aff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> that Wise will likely not shift its position on payment stablecoins with the new OCC application, despite being <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.occ.gov\/topics\/charters-and-licensing\/interpretations-and-decisions\/2026\/cd1381.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">denied<\/a> a charter to establish a national trust bank on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWise is focused on lowering the cost of cross-border transactions, agnostic of the rail,\u201d said William Blair on the move to apply under GENIUS.<\/p>\n<p>The OCC said in its rejection that the company could not show it had an effective Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) compliance program and had \u201cother illicit finance activity risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GENIUS Act, signed into law in July 2025, offers a framework for payment stablecoin providers in the United States, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/treasury-genius-act-rule-illicit-finance\">pending finalized regulations<\/a> to be approved by federal agencies.
