According to a Monday <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mp.weixin.qq.com\/s\/9RERVM48GJuz8V13HhzaKQ\">posts<\/a> on NUIST&#8217;s official social media account, founding members of this platform encompass a variety of academic institutions and blockchain-associated companies from across the mainland. <\/li>\n<li>The university set up <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/chinese-university-metaverse-major\/\">China&#8217;s first metaverse major<\/a> in September 2022 and established a department for wearable virtual reality devices in April 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Nanjing is among several Chinese cities vying for a leading role in the nation&#8217;s metaverse evolution.  The city unveiled its metaverse <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/jxw.nanjing.gov.cn\/njsjjhxxhwyh\/202302\/t20230223_3834440.html\">strategies<\/a> in February 2023, setting an ambitious goal to establish a metaverse industry generating annual revenues exceeding 135 billion yuan (US$19.13 billion) by the end of 2025.<\/li>\n<li>South of Nanjing, Shanghai is also forging ahead with its metaverse ambition.  The Chinese metropolis <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.shanghai.gov.cn\/nw48081\/20220809\/695620d577f7405dbde1db480b8627f5.html\">projects<\/a> its metaverse industry to achieve an annual revenue of 350 billion yuan by 2025. Shanghai showcased its first batch of 20 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.shanghai.gov.cn\/nw48081\/20230118\/bf262edd41a64d07a5efcfd9377d143a.html\">metaverse use cases<\/a> in early 2023, spanning a range of domains from virtual hospital diagnoses to digital reproductions of the city&#8217;s historic architectural landmarks. <\/li>\n<li>Despite China&#8217;s tough stand on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/crypto-market-shaken-china-crypto-activities-illegal\/\">cryptocurrencies<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/china-issues-nft-warnings-guidance\/\">NFTs<\/a>the country recognizes the potential of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/what-is-web3-how-shape-crypto-future\/\">web3 technologies<\/a>, including the metaverse, as a catalyst for its digital economy.  In November 2022, the State Information Center of China, a government-affiliated think tank, published a commentary advocating for policymakers to leverage the metaverse&#8217;s capabilities to bolster real-world industries.<\/li>\n<li>According to a local media <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.njdaily.cn\/news\/2023\/0524\/5565501188748305893.html\">reports<\/a> on Tuesday, Wu Zhong-ze, the former deputy minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, emphasized the need for Chinese state authorities to introduce a broader range of metaverse applications in sectors such as education, commerce, healthcare and entertainment.
