X will allow blocked users to see your posts, Elon Musk says ‘high time this happened’ – Crypto News

Elon Musk owned social media giant X (formerly Twitter) will now show blocked users posts from the person they have been blocked by but they won’t be able to engage with such posts.

In contrast, undere the current system, blocked users only get the message ‘you’re blocked’ when trying to view the profile of a person they have been blocked by. Moreover, they also can’t see replies, followers and other details profile details about the person.

In reply to a post explaining the reasoning of this change, Musk wrote, “High time this happened… The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post.”

Notaby, Musk has been a vocal critic of the block button on X and has publicly stated last year that the block feature nees to be ‘deprecated’ in favour of a stronger mute button. He had also said ‘Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs’.

However, as things stand, X users can still block the people they don’t want to engage in and such accounts could get no information about their actions on the platform. With the new change, while users can continue to have the peace of mind of not interacting with such users, the blocked accounts will still be able to view past and new posts and other user data.

While Musk dislike for the block button has been public for a while, people have been left wondering why the billionaire does not support such a simple feature that is the staple across all social media platforms. Some reports have suggested that the weakening of block button could be an attempt to stop users from circumventing ads on the platform while others state that it could be linked to a more personal reason.

Nevertheless, since Musk took over Twitter, he has made wholesale changes to the social media platform in order to make it a “public town square”.
