A Non-Fungible Token, or NFT, is unique and exists on a blockchain, which cannot be replaced. The Simpsons NFT is an internet collectible from the cartoon series created on the blockchain technology. They are a collaboration between Disney and digital marketplace Veve. In 2021, the two entities together launched Simpson NFTs, such as Cowboy Homer, Hippie Homer, Zombie Bart, etc., in gold as a part of their Golden Moments collection. Through this process, artists can now monetize their art in a digital manner.

NFT purchases take place in NFT marketplaces through digital wallets that store one’s NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies can be bought on platforms such as OpenSea, Coinbase, Kraken, Paypal, etc.

The NFTs operate using blockchain technology, a method of storing data that ensures its accuracy and security. It makes it difficult or impossible to change, deceive, or compromise the system. A blockchain is essentially a distributed, duplicated digital record of transactions that is used by computer systems and networks that use blockchain technology.

The first of the Simpsons NFTs featured one of the show’s classic moments – Homer and Bart strangling each other. There are over 12,000 editions of this token. The second NFT was of Bart’s skateboard decorated with skulls and crossbones on the underside and over 6,000 editions, making this a rare NFT.

The value of digital art is a growing sensation. Many influential people have been created as NFTs including Aamir Khan, Kamala Harris, Iron Man and Bill Gates on the Ethereum network. A ‘Homer Pepe’ NFT, a piece of art created by an artistic combination of Homer Simpson and the Pepe The Frog meme was sold for over $320,000 in 2021, after being purchased by the seller, Peter Kell, at $38,500.

With the growth of the NFT world, many celebrities and big brands are entering this space including Warner Bros, Quentin Tarentino, DC Comics and Marvel.
