Zebedee, the New Jersey-based payments technology firm that builds on the Bitcoin Lightning Network, will allow Minecraft players to earn Bitcoin by completing in-game quests, according to a press release Tuesday.

  • Zebedee is launching this service with Satlantis, a server on Minecraft that shares its profits with players in the form of rewards and cash prizes. ,[Players] can earn real bitcoin rewards totaling over one million [Satoshis] a week, while also learning about the concept of bitcoin mining,” the press release explained.
  • A Satoshi, named after the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, is the smallest unit of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.
  • The earned Bitcoin can be used to purchase land, resources, equipment in the open world game, and even gift cards for vendors such as Amazon and Walmart.
  • It can also be withdrawn to Zebedee’s app where users can then spend the Bitcoin on the company’s network of games or move the tokens to exchanges that support the Bitcoin Lightning Network, which are OKCoin and Bitfinex.
  • The Bitcoin Lightning Network is a layer-2 payment protocol built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, designed to make Bitcoin transactions cheaper and faster by processing off-chain.
  • The Zebedee app will also support users to convert the earned crypto into a number of local currencies. It is unclear what these local currencies are.
  • Neither Zebedee nor Satlantis is affiliated with Mojang Studios.
